Myths and Facts about OSHA Training

Forklift certification classes online

We at Superior Forklift Certification have been providing OSHA standard forklift training for over many years. Every year thousands of candidates and employers apply for forklift training. It helps them in operating the forklift machine at workspace safely. From our experience, we seoindiarank have learnt a number of things are included in the OSHA training and it is not necessary to do an in-person training. Likewise, there are many myths and facts about the training, about which many people are not aware.

A candidate or employer related to the OSHA forklift training should know these facts and myths before apply for the training.

Myth No 1: “OSHA is now self-funded, and it has to have your fines to survive.”

There is a myth about the OSHA program that, it faces many damages and accidents every year. They cover these accidental damages by fining a candidate or with their own funds.

The Williams-Steiger Occupational and Safety Health Act of 1970 or the OSH Act clarifies this myth. As per this act, each state has two options to cover the damage. They can choose either to develop their own safety program or allow the federal government to control workspace safety. Most of the states opt for the second option. Hence, the damage amount is covered by the federal government.

Myth No 2: “You can call OSHA to visit your workplace and the agency will inspect it and cite you for anything it finds wrong.”

This is another myth you had heard during the OSHA training. There is some confusion in the statement. The federal government in the US makes compulsory that OSHA must enforce its regulation and can offer some training and consultative assistance to the business to help them in compliance with the OSHA act.

The US territory has an agency that offers aid to small level businesses. The limit if a small business is, having less than 250 employees. Therefore, the agency inspects small businesses and do not cite without finding anything wrong.

Myth No 3: OSHA Directly Offers Courses

The OSHA standard training can be provided through online or offline mode. But, the OSHA does not provide classes directly to any candidate, whether it is online or offline. OSHA delegates this responsibility to their authorized trainers. They provide training in a variety of industries and a variety of workplace.

Myth No 4: OSHA courses must be taken In-Person

Many of the authorized trainers and institutes cite that taking in-person training is necessary. There is only HAZWOPER training which must be hands on. OSHA training courses do not require in-person training.

Myth No 5: OSHA can shut down a Work Site or Plant Site

OSHA compliances don’t give power to the authority to remove any site. If OSHA finds any danger at the plant site, their office may request to remove employees from that site. If the owner or employer does not follow the order, the seoindiarank inspector can request an order from the court to stop the daily activities at the site.

Hence, it is in the hands of courts, not the OSHA.

Myth No 6: OSHA requires employers to conduct refresher training for their powered-industrial truck (PIT) operators every three years.

As per laws, OSHA standards require initial formal classroom training and hands-on practice and an actual performance result of their test. After three years, the forklift operator has to refresh their training and provide an evaluated result to the OSHA. Its standards do not require a re-evaluation of every powered industrial truck operator’s performance.

Myth No 7: OSHA standards require powered industrial lift operators to carry a “driver’s license”.

According to the rules and regulation of OSHA, operator training requires the employer to certify that each operator has been trained. The rule implies that certificate must include name of the operator, date of the training, date of the evaluation, identity of the evaluator. However, there is no requirement of driver’s license.
